BENJAMIN, JONATHAN
✖ NHD-A10-BNJ-131
✖ Blue Team originally, moved to Red officially on Day 45
benjamin.jonathan@cdc.org

PLACE OF ORIGIN & SPECIES: Earth (Shiloh, Gilboa) | Human
DIET: Omnivore
NOTABLE SKILL SET/S: Combat, marksmanship, militant and political strategy, leadership, legal prosecution.

BACKGROUND:
Jonathan 'Jack' Benjamin is Crown Prince of Gilboa, a powerful nation under an absolute monarchy based on Earth, and born second to Silas and Rose Benjamin (twin sister 'Michelle' four minutes his elder). Ranked Major in the Gilboan national army, Benjamin has served tours on the front of the recently ended war with Gath, and is currently assigned to an intelligence post within the capitol city of Shiloh. A recent coup orchestrated by William Cross, Benjamin's uncle, saw a failed assassination on King Silas, and Benjamin attempted to usurp the throne despite reports of his father's survival. A failed attempt, he was stripped of title and rights, and was privately disgraced and sentenced to produce a replacement heir for King Silas Benjamin, to be raised "right this time" by the King.

CHARACTER ASSESSMENT:
Dangerously ambitious, manipulative, sly and dishonest when it serves him. Frank to the point of emotional harm when it does not. An emotionally unstable young man, carrying bitterness, jealousy and a want for revenge for sacrifices made to appease his father. Pragmatic, cold and detached, Benjamin makes a point to place what is best for his future interest of circumstance over what he desires or imagines will make him contented in life (romantic interests and orientation, moral and ethical integrity, notions of friendship or close relation), believing it secondary to building himself as a better, more valuable, whole. He is prone to addiction, self-destruction and insecurities that fuel a need to prove himself while concealing percieved personal failures and flaws. Despite his condemnation of his father, most of Silas Benjamin's beliefs and philosophies have been cemented in Jonathan's psyche.

❚❚❚❚❚ BASICS.

■ NAME & ID CODE: Jonathan "Jack" Benjamin | NHD-A10-BNJ-131
■ CANON: Kings, end of series.
■ AGE: 25
■ CURRENT TEAM & STATUS: Red Team. Peachy keen.
■ LANGUAGE: "Judaean", which is like weird ancient hebrew with some modern in it, idk. See language section below for more. KINGS IS HARD. Can speak a teeny bit of English from what he learned on Ajna from Simon. Also, a lot of other Old Testament languages that no one cares about.
■ INVENTORY: Here.
❚❚❚❚❚ IC.
■ PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Sure, but as a rule on reciprocation or Jack's reaction to it, generally, if Jack hasn't voluntarily touched you, it's probably not a great idea to touch him if you're expecting anything reciprocating. He might even just dead-eye you until you let him go, depending on who it is. For real, dude doesn't even hug his own mother back. People currently able to get reciprocating positive contact from him: Hanna Talbot, Clary Fray, d'Artagnan, Fiona. Casual hook-ups will have positive contact during, obv, but it'll cease after the fact. TOUCHING HIS SPINE IS A BAD IDEA. He was pretty brutally tortured for seeeeveral hours/close to a day, not very long back, and it involved breaking every vertebrea in his spine one at a time, and he had to remain conscious for it, and ended up paralyzed and confused for a while too so. As a general rule, you probably don't want your character touching his spine (back is still iffy but he can deal, he'll just jerk away), unless they want to be punched, shoved or pistol whipped. :|b
■ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Sure, expect retaliation. Jack sort of uses violence for coping, so go for it.
■ RELATIONSHIPS: He's very socialable (the catch is if he's being sincere about it or not), and he'll be happy to make connections with people and pretend he's a lot more charming than he is, especailly if it's someone he sees as useful. As for romantic relationships thooooough, probably not going to happen, but he'll flirt like hell. He is gay (won't stop him flirting with girls excessively), but so in the closet him an Aslan have tea in Narnia. DTF hook ups, though, he'll def be down for, as long as you never expect more from him or push for more :|
■ MENTAL INFORMATION: Go for it, re: telepathy. Let me know your dude is trying to peek in his head and I'll supply some small text to help out. Jack's thoughts are going to be a lot different from what's coming out of his mouth. He's constantly hiding a lot of things, and he's not nearly as pleasant as he acts.
■ MEDICAL INFORMATION:
Are they vertebrate? Yes.
Is “breathing” necessary for their survival? Yes.
Do they feel hunger? Yes.
How many fingers and eyes? 10 fingers, two eyes.
■ FAVORITE SENSORY INPUT: Sight
■ OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: Offensive Subjects: homophobia, criticism on worthiness, daddy issues/so much as saying the name Silas Benjamin to him, abandonment issues, suicide/suicidal ideation. Triggers: DAMAGE/PAIN/CONTACT WITH HIS SPINE (won't incapacitate him, just make him go all 'i will fucking shoot you' and hate you), scenes with a lot of carnage (especially of soldiers/comrades), violence/killing threatened against Michelle Benjamin or Hanna Talbot will garner extreme violence from him, the... concept that his entire life has been wasted and he has nothing in his future except more of the same misery? IT IS VERY SPECIFIC and it takes a specific scenario to get to that. If he’s forced to go back to Gilboa, basically. Or if he learns that DAVID BROUGHT GOD HERE, because the Bible that wrote up their story, Jack basically looks at like a death prophecy. But this is probably the biggest trigger (outside of spinal touching post-gliese meeting), because it’s canonically made him a little bit suicidal. Or at least, made him request/demand execution. Has to really be a solid and present thing to be an issue, though, not just mentioning/talking about it. Check here for more details.
■ REBELLIOUS TENDENCIES: Nope, he looks at the Neheda crew as basically his home now.
■ ADDITIONAL PERMISSIONS: n/a
❚❚❚❚❚ OOC.
■ PLAYER: Jen
■ PREFERRED CONTACT: [plurk.com profile] Wuzzafuzzle
■ BACKTAGGING: Definitely
■ THREADHOPPING: Go for it, as long as the other person is cool.
■ FOURTHWALLING: I'm cool with it, but be aware of CDC rules on it.
■ ACTION VS PROSE: Prefer action, but I can do prose
■ OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: Animal torture. Really detailed holocaust commentary, but it's sort of hit and miss. I can handle a lot of it and I'm fine with it most of the time. Please never make holocaust jokes around me, though.
■ YES/NO SCENARIOS: No's are: Animal torture, hmm holocaust related things? like idk if it’s too close to it i might not be able to do it. Bugs under skin 8|, perma-death because I don’t want to drop, peeermanent mutilation (loss of limbs or other body parts) I’d rather not do but idk we can talk about it. Pretty much everythign else is cool. Check here for more details.

■ ANYTHING ELSE? Nada, hit me up on aim or plurk if you have questions.
❚❚❚❚❚ LANGUAGE.
■ BIBLICAL HEBREW: As a note on the language Jack natively speaks, I've been doing ranting plurks about trying to figure this out since the beginning of this gd game. THIS IS THE ISSUE. Kings is a modernization of a biblical story, with real, biblical geographic places within it (not exactly where and what they should be (i.e., instead of just a mountain "Gilboa" is a country)), and there is no England or America, therefore, despite the fact that the show is done in English with American accents, they don't actually speak English, considering English wouldn't be a thing. BUT, the name of the language they speak isn't actually said in canon at all. So, if we're going on the biblical side of things, they should speak Biblical Hebrew, which is a dialect that is ancient and dead and extinct, but at the same time it's liiiiiike, idk, you could go any which way with it because it's a modernized AU of the bible vdskfjdlfdas SO. AFTER MUCH DEBATE, AND THIS PLURK HERE, I decided that having 'English That Isn't Actually Called English' didn't work for threading things where Jack had to actually say what language he spoke. So I've decided that what Jack speaks is basically Biblical Hebrew, with some modernization in it, and that fits more with the theme of the show and actually gives me something solid he can SAY instead of having to work around it awkwardly.

BUT, according to THIS HERE, and obviously, Biblical Hebrew wasn't called Biblical Hebrew, and the people in Jack's world don't know they're a bible story, lmao. So, where it says The Hebrew Bible also shows that the language was called יהודית 'Judaean, Judahite' (see, for example, 2 Kings 18:26,28), seeing as Kings/Samuels is where a lot of the Jonathan, David and Saul story comes from, that's the word I'm going to use for Jack's language. It'll always be one of the two from now on. 8| SORRY FOR THE CONFUSION, GUYS, THIS CANON IS FRUSTRATING.

Also, since Jack was a prince and heir to the throne of what was basically supposed to be Israel, I assume he would have also spoken some of the other Canaanite languages, so if you see that mentioned, that's why. Also, a lot of the other Canaanite languages are mainly just dialect shifts, aside from like Phoenician, so they should mostly all be pretty close to Hebrew to begin with. NOT THAT IT'LL MATTER, UNLESS SOMEONE APPS JESUS OR SOMETHING IDEK.

As for handwriting (because Gaia and I had fun with it), Jack's typical handwriting looks like this:

- PiS Hans Hand Pro.

And his signature looks like this (because he was raised to be a fancy shit):

- Byron.

And as an fyi, Jack's looking more like this in game right now, considering the lack of hair product or decent shaving implements outside of combat knives present.
