M01C12-167 | Stephanie Brown - Dagger's List | HANDWAVED, do not reply

[ Of the lot of them on the list Dagger gave him, Stephanie is really the one he feels worst about. He'd lived in a rover with her for nearly a month, checked in with her when the lockdown happened, and while they weren't the best of friends, he knew her enough that this is personal. She was a nice girl. Bright, clever, fun. Pretty.

He's already thinking of her in the past tense. Makes it easier, once he sees her sitting out in the camp, chatting with someone, her canteen set to her side. The sleight of hand tricks Garrett had taught him come in handy as he makes to pass her casually, hands in his pockets, only coming out in a quick moment to squirt an eye dropper he'd snatched from medical into the open canteen. The water may taste a little cinnamony, but by the time she'd drank enough to taste, it'll be too late.

Jack only watches long enough from the other side of camp to see her drink from it. After that, he doesn't stick around to see her collapse. ]

[ Jack hadn’t expected this one to be so protective and cautious with what he consumes. All honesty, he seemed like an idiot. But one that either may have been poisoned in the past, or simply didn’t want anyone stealing his slice of Madu. Either way, between that and what Jack saw in his file about his abilities, the prospect of approaching him to make an attempt at it, even cloaked, seems too risky. He can’t be caught doing this, or Clary gets added to the list, and the list gets handed off to someone else.

That, and, the camp crucifies him. Something he ought to be more worried about, but at the moment, isn’t.

Jack's tracked him for an hour (short on time for this), and it's when Zelos is on the outskirts of camp that Jack sneaks out a little farther, into the trees and wilderness and cliffs of ice before lying out in the snow, cloaking device activated and tranquilizer gun in hand. Previously tranquilizer. Now, not so innocent. He'd rather not do things like this, rather not leave something as evident as a dart, or as obvious as the sting of it, but he can't find a way to cleanly get close to him. Dagger said he didn't mind the use of it, so as long as Jack's not linked back to it, it doesn't matter. The fact that the dart doesn't have CDC engraved on it and the fact it's coming from outside the camp rather than in should at least help a little.

Lining up the shot, Jack inhales deeply, trying to think back to the front in the Gath war, picking off unnamed targets, people he never had conversations with. Zelos isn't too hard. And as he breathes out, the shot fires, quiet and quick, heading directly for Zelos's chest. He doesn't need a vital point, just an entry, and that's the widest target. ]

[Dagger's List] M01C12-126 | Ino Yamanaka | THREAD

[ the majority of people on this list dagger gave him are far over baseline human. the majority of people in this camp are far over baseline human, but luckily enough, dagger said any means he wanted to use were fine. taking the med-nin out, ino yamanaka, would be easy with just a headshot from a distance, but a bullet can be traced back to him, especially one from his sniper rifle that came here from his country only. no, it'll be the poison. while the dart isn't distinctly CDC make, and while he's taking the shot from outside of the camp, once he sees ino making her way on one side of the perimeter, it still makes him nervous.

he doesn't know this one, so it's easier. she looks like a teenager girl, and he knows the reason she's on that list is because she either refused to do something dagger told her to, or expressed some measure of discontent with it. she doesn't deserve this, but neither did the soldiers across the trenches and past the mine fields at the contested gilboan border. it's just war. that's it. just war.

lining up the shot, jack takes an extra moment. he hadn't thought he'd have much of an issue, even with just a teenager, but there is that pause. still, he has to carry this out. he made an agreement, and if he goes back on it, there's consequences. he understands that, more than anything. exhaling, jack squeezes the trigger, and the dart's zipping through the frigid, Ajna air, all wind patterns accounted for. it ought to sink into her lower torso, over her digestive tract, so the process starts and finishes as fast as it can. ]

[ the first attempt was botched. a stupid fucking reason too. The idiot kid was out in the open, leaving his food and drink in plain sight, and jack had an eye dropper filled with a lethal dose of poison held in his pocket, ready to squeeze out over his canteen, when one of his friends comes bouncing over from the side Jack’s on, dragging his attention his direction just as he’d had a hand hovering over Kagari’s drink. Snatching it back, he’s quick to return it to his pocket and turn himself away from both of them, but not without certainty that Kagari hadn’t caught how close he was. Dammit.

It’s not Jack’s typical clothes he’d worn for this – just the generic, wide range CDC issued garb (not even any of his rings, scarves or fancy shoes), and Jack pulls the hood, ducking his head, to keep even his hair style out of sight as he leaves, hoping there’s nothing but his height and a vague idea of build to identify him. Shit shit shit. he got too confident with this. Forgot he was a complete novice. Didn’t have the cloaking device turned on. Shit.

It ends up that the target gets help – someone Bucky’s sure he can’t take on directly, and Jack’s cursing Dagger as they’re having to take up a position above them, higher up, concealed. Cloaked, this time. This is the last one Jack needs. He’d been waiting, trying to see if the target’s wariness died down, but he’s glued to the other’s side. This is the only way, and, well, Dagger said whatever means he wanted to use was fine. Guess he’s not trying to be that secretive about it either way. Jack’s laid out in the snow with the long range tranq gun Neheda had acquired for him, and Bucky’s beside him with some ridiculous looking sniper rifle. Hei is his target, Kagari is Jack’s. The shots will have to be close enough together that one disables Hei enough to get him out of the way, but not so much time in between that the target gets spooked and runs. Right in that sweet spot of shock.

Breathing out, Jack waits for Bucky’s cue, and not even half a second after his shot fires, Jack’s is going after.

Turned out Hei’s tougher than a bullet placed in a vital point, because he still has enough in him to reach out and shove Kagari out of the way. The dart skims Kagari, cutting an angry red line across his torso, but lands lodged in Hei’s shoulder. ] Dammit. [ but he did get some measure of poison in him, and by the time they’re both able to reload, the two have dragged themselves out of sight. Giving an aggravated grunt, Jack pops up out of the snow, shouldering his rifle. ] We’ll have to see if that takes. If it doesn’t, I’ll take a gun to him.

[ That’s the plan for all of them – if the poison doesn’t take, it’s a bullet to their skulls. He’s about to go check on the others now. ]
